Itinerary from the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere to the Basilica of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere

This itinerary takes us from the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, the beating heart of the neighborhood, to the Basilica of Santa Cecilia, located in a more intimate and quiet corner of the area. Both churches possess a unique character that reflects the millennia-old stratification of this historic neighborhood.

The route winds along two main axes, Via della Lungaretta and Via dei Vascellari. Like the entire neighborhood, these streets are bustling with traditional taverns, bars, and clubs, popular destinations for both young people and tourists.

The arrival point is the Basilica of Santa Cecilia, which, according to tradition, stands on the site of the house where the saint was martyred around 230 AD. Beneath the high altar, you can admire the remains of the saint. admire the famous sculpture by Stefano Maderno (1600): the work portrays the body of the saint in the natural pose in which it was found during the reconnaissance of 1599, with her head delicately turned and the signs of martyrdom still visible on her neck.
